Using videos

Sample album »

Since the release of jAlbum 11 adding videos to jAlbum albums is as easy as a drag-and-drop. jAlbum will take care of the proper scaling and transcoding to MP4 format, so the videos will work on most devices, and browsers. Read more about jAlbum's video support: jAlbum 11 welcomes video

Use the Settings » Videos tab to choose Quality and Resolution or apply custom encoding settings.

To control the start and end points of the video, go to Edit mode in jAlbum and move the sliders. You can also pick the poster/thumb image with the slider below.

Turtle skin is using the free and open source (MIT) jPlayer video player component from jPlayer.org.

If you don't want jAlbum to re-encode the video select right-click » Do not re-encode.

If you choose to not re-encode a particular video the built-in video player component will only work if the original movie is already in MP4 format.

Local playback might be blocked by the browser's security rules, most prominently with Flash player (when no MP4 encoder is available in the browser). Test videos in the uploaded album.

Microsoft's IIS server need to be enabled to support MP4 streaming. Follow these steps: Choose the website to configure in IIS » right-click » Properties » HTTP Headers tab » MIME Map section » File Types » New Type: extension = .mp4, mime type = video/mp4 » OK. The server might need to be restarted.

Beyond jAlbum-level video settings Turtle has its own options, like Auto start, Video title, Maximized or Flash priority.

Using audio files

Sample album »

You can add audio files to Turtle albums just like videos. No re-encoding will take place though. Turtle can play the following formats: MP3, M4A, OGA and FLA.

In order the audio files optimized for the web, consider resampling the files to 128 kbit/s, joint-stereo.

Even though accented and punctuation characters are fine on PC's they don't work on the web. Remove any such charcters from the file names before you add them the album.

To add a poster image to be used for the thumbnail and the background for the player, add a JPG file in the same folder, named the same as the audio, with thm extension. Example: the audio is called yellowsubmarine.mp3, then use a JPG file named as yellowsubmarine.thm.
