Layout variations

1. Vertically-split layout

Sample album

Turtle skin has two basic layout modes: the normal – header above thumbnails – and the the so-called vertically split layout with the header on the left and the thumbnails right to it.

Find the relevant settings on the Theme image tab

The width of the thumbnail container is 150% of the theme image width. Use 400px or smaller as the theme image width to fit fine in a normal width browser. For example 400x400 is a good starting point for theme image dimensions.

When using the verically split mode the Google map and the Facebook commenting is placed in the left column, making them always visible.

2. Panoramic album

Sample album

Turtle is good for panoramic images too. You will need to make the image bounds wider, e.g. 8000x720 will do. In order the thumbnails show a good proportion of the image, make the thumbnails wider too, for example 880x120.

Use the arrow keys or drag the image with the mouse to look around.

When you drag it beyond 25% of the window width the previous / next image is loaded.

In order to avoid memory overrun in jAlbum, resize the images below ~60 Mpx.

3. Portrait thumbnails

Sample album

If your images are mainly portrait oriented, you might want to adjust the thumbnail size for a better cutout. For example I used 225x300 as Thumbnail bounds in this sample album.

In order to make the thumbnails gapless I used 0 as Gap between thumbnails and Thumbnail padding on the Thumbnails page.

To make the design as flat as possible I used no rounding (=0) on Theme image (Design page) and turned off the Use 3D effects too (same page).
